A native of Nebraska, Lois Smith finds joy in the color she sees as she looks across the Nebraska landscape that she loves and it is what draws her to painting with watercolor. Although her subject matter is diverse, the organic nature of the countryside is a constant influence.
Inspired by her creative Grandmother, she was guided to a short course in experimental painting at LSU in Ruston, Lousianna and workshops in watercolor and pastel with nationally known artists, forming her art background. She is Past President and a Signature Member of the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs and a juried artist of the twenty-five member IMPACT Nebraska Artists. She has received the All Nebraska Artist award through the Nebraska State Fair and was given the Citizen Volunteer Award for her art contributions to the city of Columbus.
Lois enjoys teaching art classes to individuals and groups of all ages with monthly pre-school sessions at the Columbus Public Library being a favorite activity. She is an exhibiting member at The Grove – A Gallery in Nebraska City and the Red Path Gallery, Seward, Nebraska and shows her paintings through exhibits and juried competitions. Her paintings have won awards in regional, national and international competitions. She works out of her in home studio in Columbus, Nebraska.
